This month, Cleantech for UK visited Space Solar, a pioneering UK cleantech innovator developing the next generation of clean power technology.
We were joined by Olly Glover MP, the Member of Parliament for Didcot and Wantage, to discuss Space-Based Solar Power (SBSP), a transformative energy source that could deliver constant, clean, and dependable power from space. Unlike terrestrial renewables, SBSP is unaffected by weather, seasons, or time of day. Independent government-led studies confirm it is now technically viable and economically competitive with other renewable energy sources.
Based at Harwell Campus, Oxfordshire, Space Solar is led by CEO Sam Alden and a team of world-class engineers and scientists. Together, they are working to turn this groundbreaking concept into reality, with an investable roadmap to deliver a 30MW demonstrator within six years, and gigawatt-scale generation within twelve.
As the government advances its Invest 2035 industrial strategy and works towards delivering Clean Power by 2030, technologies like Space-Based Solar Power offer the UK a unique opportunity to lead the world in new forms of sustainable, secure energy.
We look forward to seeing this technology continue to develop.
